Hyderabad: A devastating attack by a pack of stray dogs killed 100 sheep in Alair town of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district late Wednesday night, causing severe financial loss to a local shepherd family.
Egidi Sampath and his wife Madhavi, residents of Alair , had been sustaining their livelihood by rearing sheep. As usual, they were asleep in their house adjacent to the sheep enclosure when the attack occurred around 11 p.m. The dogs reportedly breached the pen and mauled the flock, killing 100 sheep.
Shepherds allege repeated warnings ignored by civic officials
At dawn, Sampath went to release the sheep and found the enclosure strewn with carcasses. Shocked by the scene, he collapsed to the ground. The couple, whose only source of income was their livestock, broke down in tears, saying they now have no means of livelihood.
Sampath expressed anguish that despite repeated complaints to municipal authorities about the threat posed by stray dogs, no preventive measures were taken. The total estimated loss stands at ₹6 lakh.
Egidi Srisailam, town president of the Kuruma community association, urged the state government to extend immediate financial assistance to the affected family.
