Hyderabad: At least 18 people, including the driver, were injured when a speeding private bus rammed into a lorry from behind near Narayanpet in the early hours of Thursday. The collision took place near Bondalkunta in Makthal mandal on National Highway 167.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the Durga Travels Volvo bus, belonging to Shivamogga in Karnataka, was en route to Hyderabad carrying 29 passengers. Around 5 am, while passing through the outskirts of Narsireddypally and Jaklair villages, the bus crashed into a lorry ahead of it. The impact was severe enough to completely wreck the front portion of the bus.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Makthal Sub-Inspector Bhagyalakshmi Reddy confirmed that 18 injured passengers were immediately shifted to Makthal Government Hospital for treatment. Seven of the more seriously injured victims were later referred to hospitals in Raichur and Mahbubnagar for advanced medical care.
