Hyderabad: The Telangana government is preparing to release ₹2,355 crore for urgent civic works in urban local bodies across the state, excluding Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
The funding proposal for urban civic works, routed through a loan from the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (TUFIDC), is aimed at municipalities and corporations currently under special officer administration. These civic bodies have been functioning without elected councils since their terms ended in January.
The fund allocation, intended to be finalised within July, will prioritise essential works such as drinking water, sanitation, sewage, and road infrastructure. Officials confirmed that most municipalities had previously approved major development works during their last council meetings, but a shortage of funds and pending contractor bills had stalled execution.
Under the proposed plan, each of the 157 eligible urban local bodies would receive ₹15 crore. The amount will be used to clear old dues and begin immediate infrastructure works. An official list of tasks for each body is reportedly ready.
With development having slowed across civic bodies outside GHMC for several months, the government aims to restart core services and capital projects without further delay.
