Hyderabad: The South-East Zone Task Force and Bandlaguda Police on Friday arrested three interstate ganja transporters near Bandlaguda X Road and seized 25.6 kilograms of dry ganja, valued at ₹3.9 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, officials intercepted a white WagonR bearing registration number AP 39 SP 0138 and apprehended the accused Mohammad Shameerulla Baig (35), Bodugu Rajesh (26), and Sonkavalli Naresh (29) all from Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
Police said Shameerulla and Rajesh, former business partners in a railway coach hotel venture, suffered heavy losses and, along with Naresh, turned to ganja trafficking to recover financially. The trio allegedly purchased 25 kg of ganja for ₹1.85 lakh from a supplier named Ramu in Rajahmundry and planned to resell it at a profit to a contact named Shiva in Hyderabad.
The seized items include the vehicle, ₹3,000 in cash, four mobile phones, and a laptop. The two key figures supplier Ramu of Alluri Sitarama Raju district and buyer Shiva from Hyderabad are currently absconding.
The operation was led by Additional DCP Iqbal Siddiqi and ACP A. Sudhakar, with teams from both Task Force and Bandlaguda PS, including Inspectors Saidababu and Gurunath.
