30 students fall ill after food poisoning at Pedda Kothapalli Gurukulam

Hyderabad: Thirty students at the Pedda Kothapalli Gurukulam in Nagar Kurnool district suffered food poisoning symptoms after consuming contaminated food on Saturday night, but staff allegedly denied them basic treatment and sent them home the next morning to avoid public attention.

Students began experiencing stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea shortly after dinner. Despite their condition, staff refused hospitalisation, reportedly fearing the issue would come to light.

Students who spoke out described long-standing issues with the quality of food. They alleged being regularly served undercooked rice with diluted rasam and said their complaints were met with hostility. When they questioned the poor quality of meals, staff allegedly responded, “Do you get better food at home?” and insisted they eat despite flies on the food.

According to students, Sunday morning’s decision to quietly send them home without even first aid came after they fell seriously ill overnight.
