Hyderabad: Suspected food poisoning at a tribal girls’ ashram school in Devarakonda mandal, Nalgonda district, left 33 students hospitalised over the past two days.
The incident occurred at the Mudigonda tribal ashram school, which houses over 300 students. On Sunday evening, students were served snacks followed by chicken curry for dinner. Several girls began vomiting soon after and were administered first aid by the ANM on duty.
On Monday morning, after eating tamarind rice for breakfast, more students reported symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain. The school staff rushed them to Turkapalli PHC and later to the government hospital in Devarakonda.
Revenue Divisional Officer Ramana Reddy, along with local officials, visited the hospital to monitor the students’ condition and held discussions with hospital superintendent Dr Raviprakash. Doctors confirmed that all affected students were in stable condition.
Leaders from BC Sangham, ASF, and SFSI also visited the hospital to enquire about the students’ well-being.
