Hyderabad: Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that 50,000 new ration cards will be distributed in the city starting August 1. He said the names of 2.5 lakh eligible residents have already been added to the list.
Speaking to the media at Indira Nagar, Road No. 5, Jubilee Hills, alongside senior leaders, the minister said applicants who missed the earlier deadline will be allowed to reapply. The government, he said, aims to ensure all eligible residents are covered.
Addressing environmental concerns, Ponnam said the state is working to reduce pollution in Hyderabad and will begin allowing electric vehicles in select areas.
On the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election, Ponnam made it clear that the ruling party will nominate a local candidate. “The final decision lies with the leadership, but the ticket will not go to outsiders. We will consider all views before announcing the candidate,” he said.
He urged voters to support the party’s nominee, saying the government is committed to inclusive welfare and development.
