Hyderabad: A group of students from NIT Warangal had to be rescued late Friday night after losing their way in a forest near Mahithapuram waterfalls in Telangana’s Mulugu district.
The seven students, four boys and three girls, had ventured into the restricted forest area in Venkatapuram mandal despite an official ban due to ongoing heavy rains. They were reportedly taking photos near the waterfalls when they got turned around on the way back. Caught in a downpour, the group ended up stranded in the thick jungle for more than six hours.
Local police and forest officials launched a foot search after being alerted and managed to locate the students and guide them back to safety.
Authorities have once again stressed that entry to the waterfalls is off-limits due to dangerous conditions. They’ve also warned that anyone flouting the restrictions could face strict action.
