Hyderabad: The Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH)-65 will be expanded into an eight-lane corridor, with construction set to begin in February 2026, announced Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Sunday.
He confirmed that the project had cleared the tendering stage. Speaking in Hyderabad, the Roads & Buildings Minister said this is one of the busiest and most accident-prone stretches in the region. “We have already identified 17 black spots and flyovers are being built to enhance road safety,” he said.
The upgraded expressway will adopt advanced technologies to ensure high-speed travel with reduced accident risk. Once completed, the new corridor will reduce travel time to Vijayawada from Hyderabad to just two hours.
Bharat Future City–Amaravati highway also gains momentum
Komatireddy added that he had met Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently to push for early execution of Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway. He said the Centre had extended full support to the initiative.
He also highlighted progress on the proposed Bharat Future City–Amaravati Greenfield Highway. This new 230-km corridor is moving ahead quickly, with its Detailed Project Report and cost estimates nearing finalisation. “Gadkari has promised full assistance. This highway will boost growth in both Telugu states,” Komatireddy said.
