HYDERABAD: In a heartbreaking incident, a 90-year-old woman was found lying in a severely weak and abandoned condition outside Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. The elderly woman, identified as Kaashamma from Narayankhed, was seen waiting in vain for her family, saying through tears that her grandson had left her there and never returned.
Despite having five sons, Kaashamma was left to fend for herself on the streets. With her bones visibly protruding from hunger and exhaustion, she lay helplessly on the roadside, clinging to hope that her family would come back for her.
Locals step in to help
Moved by her plight, local residents have been offering her water and food, trying to provide some comfort as she endures the harsh conditions. Her frail voice and repeated cries for her family have left many in the area emotional and outraged.
“This is unimaginable—how could anyone abandon a woman of this age like this?” questioned one of the onlookers.
Call for government support
Residents have appealed to government officials and social welfare authorities to intervene and ensure the woman receives proper care and shelter. They emphasised the need for stronger systems to protect the elderly, especially those neglected by their own families.
Kaashamma’s case has brought to light the pressing issue of elder abandonment and the urgent need for action to prevent such inhumane treatment of vulnerable citizens.
