HYDERABAD: Unseasonal rainfall accompanied by strong winds caused extensive damage to mango orchards and public infrastructure in Telangana’s Peddapalli and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts on Thursday.
Farmers in multiple mandals of Bhupalpally district reported severe losses after heavy gusts battered the region. The storm uprooted several trees, blew off tin roofs from houses, and caused power disruptions as electricity poles collapsed in various localities.
In Manthani town, a tin shed installed on the terrace of a three-storey building collapsed due to the intense winds. Similar devastation was reported in the Metpally mandal, where strong gales wreaked havoc across villages.
Mango growers in the Mulug and Malhar Rao mandals were among the worst hit, with large sections of fruit-bearing trees either destroyed or rendered unproductive.
Local farmers have appealed to the state government to assess the damage promptly and extend immediate financial assistance to those affected. Many say their seasonal incomes have been wiped out, adding urgency to their demand for compensation.
