Hyderabad: Authorities seized 17.5 kilograms of ganja being illegally transported from the Andhra-Odisha border to Godavarikhani through Bhadrachalam on Wednesday. The contraband was intercepted by the Khammam District Excise Task Force on Kunavaram Road in Bhadrachalam, following a tip-off.
The team stopped a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle suspected to be carrying narcotics and discovered 17.5 kg of dry ganja being smuggled. Two individuals were taken into custody at the scene. In addition to the narcotics, officials seized the motorcycle and two mobile phones used by the suspects.
Officials estimated the market value of the ganja seized at approximately ₹8.75 lakh. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Gautham, with support from staff members Ramakrishna Goud, Habeeb Pasha, Venkata Narayana, Sumanth, Shravani, Parthasarathi, and Ramesh.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and its intended network of distribution.
