Human Rights Commission takes suo motu notice of Gulzar Houz fire tragedy

Hyderabad: The State Human Rights Commission has registered a case suo motu in connection with the devastating fire at Gulzar Houz that killed 17 members of a single family.

The commission took serious note of the incident and issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Telangana, Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Director General of Fire Services, and Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL). All have been directed to submit a detailed report by 30 June.

The fire broke out on Sunday morning in a three-storey building at Gulzar Houz crossroads. It quickly turned into one of the deadliest fire incidents in Hyderabad, resulting in the highest single-incident death toll from a blaze in the city.

Officials said the commission initiated the proceedings in light of the serious human rights implications of the tragedy.
