Hyderabad: A 33-year-old woman undergoing psychiatric treatment for the past three years died by suicide after jumping from a residential building in Chandanagar on Sunday.
According to Chandanagar police, the deceased, Palakonda Kumari, was a native of Kadumu village in Kotturu mandal, Srikakulam district. She had been living with her husband Burada Prasad and their two children at Arambh Township under Chandanagar police limits.
Kumari had been under treatment for mental health issues for an extended period. On Sunday, she reportedly jumped from the top of the building where the family resided. She suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.
Police reached the location after being informed and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem. Initial assessment by investigators indicated mental illness as the likely cause behind the suicide.
Based on a complaint from her family, Chandanagar police have registered a case and started an investigation. Kumari is survived by two children, Prashant Kumar (15) and Riyanshika (8).
