Hyderabad: Home guards across 11 districts in Telangana remain unpaid even as the month nears mid-point, prompting outrage and demands for immediate salary release. With bills piling up and no clarity from the state government, discontent is mounting.
The delay affects personnel in Warangal, Karimnagar, Ramagundam Commissionerates, and districts including Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Jagtial, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Bhadradri and Kothagudem—many report struggling with household expenses, children’s school fees, and rent.
Personnel say that under the one-and-a-half-year Congress administration, salary timelines have become erratic. Health cards remain undistributed, and raincoats, essential for field duty during the monsoon, have not been issued.
The All India Home Guards Association has called a nationwide Mahadharna in Delhi on July 20, escalating the campaign for long-standing demands. President Kamala Sharma said the protest aims to pressure the central government to amend the Home Guard Act of 1946-47 and 1962-63 and ensure job security for the nearly five lakh home guards in India.
The Telangana State Home Guards Association has urged widespread participation from the state. The protest is expected to spotlight the precarious conditions of home guards nationwide.
