Hyderabad: Tension flared outside Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday as unemployed youth gathered under the banner of the “Chalo Gandhi Bhavan” call to demand recruitment notifications for two lakh government jobs. Police deployed in large numbers from early morning and moved swiftly to detain protestors as they arrived at the site.
The mobilisation led to traffic congestion in the surrounding areas. Police diverted vehicles and cleared the jam. Protestors said they had not come to lay siege to Gandhi Bhavan, but to submit a representation seeking immediate action on pending recruitment.
Protest demands job notifications across sectors
The demonstrators urged the government to release notifications in line with the job calendar, including 20,000 posts in the Mega DSC teacher recruitment, 6,000 vacancies in BPOs, 5,368 cleared posts in the power sector, and 20,000 vacancies in the police department. They also sought fresh notifications for Group 1, 2 and 3 services, separate from earlier recruitment drives.
Several participants accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its election promise on job notifications. “We are only asking for what was promised,” one protestor said.
