Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad concludes peacefully with 2.7 lakh idols immersed

Hyderabad: The Ganesh immersion in Hyderabad ended on Sunday evening after nearly 40 hours of continuous processions and rituals. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported that more than 2.7 lakh idols were immersed across the city.

Commissioner R.V. Karnan said Hussainsagar Lake alone received 23,000 idols. To reduce pressure on major lakes, officials arranged 72 artificial and baby ponds across the city. These ponds handled over 1.2 lakh idols. He credited the success to the joint efforts of civic staff, police, electricity officials, HMDA, and other agencies.

Ganesh immersion managed with sanitation, surveillance, and coordination

More than 15,000 sanitation workers worked in three shifts to keep the city clean. They collected over 11,000 tonnes of waste, including flowers, decorative items, and paper from processions. Trucks carried the waste to processing centres. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Commissioner Karnan personally thanked the sanitation teams for their dedication.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand noted that immersion processions, which started on Friday evening, went on for nearly 40 hours. Some idols stood over 40 feet high, slowing down the processions. To keep watch, police used nine drones and 35 cameras fixed on high-rise buildings.

Police registered five minor clashes, detained 170 people for misbehaviour, and caught several pickpockets. Anand added that thousands of officers worked without sleep for two days to ensure the event passed peacefully.

The Tank Bund echoed with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” as devotees danced and sang. Despite traffic congestion near PV Marg and Tank Bund on Saturday evening, officials said the immersion concluded without major disruption.
