Hyderabad: Police investigating the Kurnool bus fire have detained one driver, identified as Sivanarayana, and launched a manhunt for the second driver, Lakshmaiah. The case is being examined from multiple angles, officers confirmed on Saturday.
According to preliminary findings, the fire was triggered when the Kaveri Travels bus collided with a bike near Chinnatekur. However, investigators now suspect the bike may have already been involved in an accident before the bus arrived. The collision is believed to have occurred after the earlier incident, which then led to the fatal blaze.
Kurnool district SP stated that detained driver Sivanarayana shared crucial information. “It was raining at 3 a.m. Suddenly, we heard a loud sound. When I got down to check, the bike was under the bus. Flames erupted soon after,” Sivanarayana reportedly told police.
Authorities continue to examine the exact sequence of events to determine liability and contributing factors behind the tragedy, which claimed 21 lives and left several others injured.
