Ponnam Prabhakar urges precautions as Cyclone Midhili triggers heavy rain

Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday asked farmers and officials to stay alert as Cyclone Midhili brought heavy rainfall to several districts.

He told Agriculture, Marketing, Revenue, and DRDO officials to act quickly and protect standing and harvested crops. He said farmers should get tarpaulins to cover paddy kept at procurement centres and in open fields.

Prabhakar asked local staff to spread awareness about the cyclone’s impact. He said farmers should delay harvesting until the weather improves. Field teams must explain the risks clearly and help farmers avoid losses.

He also asked officials to move paddy to mills without delay once it leaves procurement centres. Truck sheets must arrive on time, and all tab entries should be done without hold-ups.

The minister urged farmers to follow advice from agricultural officers to prevent damage to soaked paddy.
