Police deny permission for Telangana teachers’ meeting at LB Stadium amid election code

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police refused permission for the Telangana Teachers’ Santhwana Sabha planned for November 8 at LB Stadium. Officials explained that the Model Code of Conduct, which is currently in force, prevents such public gatherings during the election period.

The Federation of Private Higher Educational Institutions had submitted a request to the city police commissioner for approval. However, on Friday, the Commissioner’s Office rejected the plea and released a formal statement. Moreover, it clarified that all public meetings would require Election Commission clearance until polling concludes.

Telangana teachers meeting permission denied; federation moves High Court

After the rejection, federation representatives promptly filed an urgent petition in the Telangana High Court. They sought directions for the Hyderabad police to grant permission for the meeting. The bench is expected to hear the plea after the lunch break.

Meanwhile, the statewide shutdown of private colleges entered its fourth consecutive day. The protest continues against the government’s delay in clearing fee reimbursement arrears. Consequently, several colleges across Telangana have remained closed this week.

College shutdown disrupts JNTUH exams

Because of the strike, JNTU Hyderabad’s affiliated colleges struggled to conduct scheduled B.Pharmacy first-year first and second-semester exams. Only a few colleges managed to hold the tests. Most other institutions boycotted the exams completely.

In the morning session, only 916 of 7,848 students (11.67%) attended the second-semester exam. Similarly, in the afternoon supplementary exam, just 154 of 2,066 students (7.45%) appeared. Therefore, the turnout remained very low throughout the day.

Federation leaders said the shutdown achieved strong participation. They claimed nearly 2,000 colleges stayed closed across Telangana. Furthermore, they announced that the agitation would continue until the government releases the pending reimbursements.
