Jubilee Hills bypoll: NCP candidate Mohammed Anwar dies hours before counting

Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills bypoll witnessed a sudden tragedy as Nationalist Congress Party candidate Mohammed Anwar died of a heart attack just hours before counting began. Family members and supporters, meanwhile, gathered at his home in shock.

Anwar, aged 40, lived in Erragadda and filed his nomination on October 22. Election authorities accepted his papers, and he, consequently, remained in the fray until the final stages of the campaign. His death came only one day before the results were scheduled, and it triggered an outpouring of grief across his local network.

Tragedy overshadows Jubilee Hills bypoll

Relatives said Anwar remained active throughout the election period, and several supporters visited his residence soon after hearing the news. Moreover, party workers who had prepared for the counting day shifted their focus to consoling the family. The atmosphere in the neighbourhood turned sombre as groups arrived throughout the morning.

Observers noted that the Jubilee Hills bypoll had already drawn intense attention before the tragedy. Additionally, they pointed out that the final hours before counting usually see heavy mobilisation. Even so, the sudden death halted celebratory preparations and altered the mood across several divisions.
