Hyderabad: A case has been registered against top Tollywood director S.S. Rajamouli at the Saroor Nagar police station in Hyderabad following a complaint filed by Rashtra Vanarasena, alleging that his recent public remarks on God hurt Hindu religious sentiments.
Police said the complaint relates to comments Rajamouli made during the Globe Trotter event held recently at Ramoji Film City. The complainants stated that the director said he does not believe in God, which they claimed was offensive to the religious sentiments of Hindus.
At the event, Rajamouli reportedly shared a personal moment, saying that a technical glitch during the launch of the âVaranasiâ title emotionally affected him. In that context, he remarked that such experiences have made him lose faith in God. He also shared that his father, screenwriter K. Vijayendra Prasad, reassured him by invoking Lord Hanumanâs presence, and that his wife Rama is a devotee who treats Hanuman like a friend. However, he admitted feeling upset with her and with God after the event disruption.
The remarks, which quickly spread across social media platforms, triggered backlash. The complainants further cited an old tweet from over 15 years ago in which Rajamouli allegedly commented about Lord Rama, claiming it has also resurfaced online and added to the controversy.
Following the complaint, Saroor Nagar police booked a case and have taken up further investigation.
