Hyderabad: The State government removed an official on Tuesday after he made insensitive comments to the families of victims of the Saudi bus tragedy. Relatives of the 45 people killed in Monday’s accident staged a protest, saying the remarks were hurtful and unacceptable.
During a meeting with the families, Telangana State Hajj Committee Executive Officer Mohd Safiullah lost his temper and spoke harshly. His behaviour upset the relatives and angered BRS leaders, including former Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali. They were at the Hajj Committee office to review arrangements for sending families to Saudi Arabia. A short video of the exchange went viral and invited sharp criticism on social media.
Saudi bus tragedy row triggers quick government action
As tensions rose, TMREIS chairman Faheem Qureshi reached the Haj House. He said the government viewed the matter seriously and would not allow any official to misbehave with the public. He also said firm action was needed to protect the dignity of the families.
Soon after, the government issued orders transferring Mohd Safiullah to Telangana GENCO, his parent department. Officials said the move would prevent further conflict and ensure that support for the victims’ families continued without disruption.
