Hyderabad: Warangal Police Commissioner Sunpreet Singh delivered a firm warning to new MBBS students on Tuesday, urging them to stay away from drugs, ragging, and unsafe online activity. He addressed first-year students at an awareness programme on anti-ragging, anti-drugs, and cybercrime organised at Warangal Medical College. After lighting the lamp, he opened the session and stressed the need for discipline on campus.
Singh said Warangal welcomed students from across Telangana and many parts of the country. He explained that the campus must promote friendly relations between seniors and juniors. Moreover, he suggested that seniors guide juniors and help them progress in their studies.
Warangal police warning stresses zero tolerance for ragging
The Commissioner reminded students that ragging attracts strict legal action. He noted that jail terms may range from six months to life, depending on the gravity of the offence. Because criminal cases can damage a student’s career and future goals, he urged everyone to avoid harmful behaviour.
He also advised students to stay far away from drugs. According to him, drug use damages health, drains finances, and pushes young people into long-term problems. Furthermore, he asked students not to cause emotional distress to parents who work hard for their future. He encouraged them to report any drug use or sale to the college administration, local police, or the Narcotics Wing through the 1908 helpline.
Cyber safety reinforced through the Warangal police warning
Singh said criminals now misuse technology to commit offences. Consequently, he urged students to stay alert to unknown messages sent to phones or email. He also asked them not to post personal information or photographs on unverified websites. In addition, he warned against making online transactions with strangers.
The Commissioner administered an oath against ragging and drug use and unveiled awareness posters. East Zone DCP Ankit Kumar, Warangal ASP Shubham Nag, Narcotics and Cyber Wing DSPs Ramesh and Girikumar, KMC Principal Dr Sandhya Rani, MGM Superintendent Dr Harichandra Reddy, Mattewada Inspector Karunakara Rao, faculty members, and staff attended the event.
