Jagruti chief Kavitha detained during protest over Singareni workers’ demands

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha was detained on Wednesday after leading a protest at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. She demanded immediate action on long-pending issues affecting Singareni Collieries workers.

Kavitha, along with HMS Singareni union leaders, attempted to lay siege to the office. Police intervened and escorted the protestors to Nampally Police Station.

Kavitha opposes coal auctions, seeks tax relief and health safeguards

She urged the Centre to stop coal block auctions in Telangana. Instead, she demanded that all new blocks be allocated solely to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). This, she argued, was essential for the firm’s financial stability.

Kavitha called for an end to income tax deductions from workers’ salaries to ease their financial burden. She accused the Congress-led government of corruption, alleging that 25% of contracts involve kickbacks, with 10% benefiting Congress leaders. If no action is taken, she warned, she would escalate the issue to the CBI.

She also criticised the removal of dependent employment roles without offering alternatives. Kavitha repeated her demand for a dedicated medical board, calling it critical for workers’ health and long-term welfare.
