Telangana charts roadmap to become skill capital of India

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Wednesday said the state aims to become the skill capital of India by training youth in advanced digital technologies.

At the launch of the “Skill Convocation in IT/ITES Sector and AI, Digital Technologies Hackathon 2025” held at the Engineering Staff College of India in Gachibowli, the minister said the government is drafting a detailed roadmap to develop human capital in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Quantum Computing.

He stated that technology is evolving rapidly, and only a skilled, adaptive workforce can secure the future. Citing global trends, he noted that over 40% of international firms now use generative AI in core operations. Addressing job-loss fears, he clarified that AI shifts the nature of employment rather than eliminating roles.

Skill capital of India push focuses on AI and green innovation

Sridhar Babu quoted the World Economic Forum, which estimates automation could replace 85 million jobs but create 97 million new, skill-based positions. He urged young people to view change as opportunity and build relevant capabilities.

He also warned of rising cybercrime and said ethical hackers and cybersecurity professionals are in growing demand. Furthermore, he highlighted the emergence of job opportunities in clean technology, electric vehicles, and green innovation—sectors driven by climate change.

“Degrees alone won’t guarantee jobs anymore,” he said. “Success today demands innovation, problem-solving, and practical skills.” He added that the government is investing in a skilling ecosystem to match industry expectations and ensure employability.

“We are preparing a workforce that meets today’s economic needs,” he said. ESCI Director Dr. Rameshwara Rao also participated in the event.
