Hyderabad: Minister for Panchayat Raj and Kamareddy district in-charge Seethakka faced protests from farmers during her official visit to the district on Thursday.
After attending multiple foundation stone ceremonies for development works in Bhikkanur, Seethakka was en route to Sirikonda in Nizamabad district. Her purpose was to meet Everest climber Malavath Poorna. However, her convoy was stopped at Ramareddy mandal headquarters by a group of agitating farmers.
The protestors demanded timely procurement of paddy and a bonus payment for fine variety rice. They questioned the delay in procurement and accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises.
In response, an irate Seethakka lashed out at the protestors, asking, “Are you really farmers?” She abruptly left the scene without further engagement.
Farmers demand bonus for fine variety paddy
The farmers accused the government of neglecting its responsibilities. They alleged that the government had not announced or disbursed a bonus for the fine grain paddy, a major crop in the region. They insisted that procurement delays were impacting their incomes. Therefore, they called for urgent government action.
