HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balaram has announced a significant development in the company’s power generation capacity. An agreement has been signed with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to construct an 800 MW Ultra Super Critical Thermal Power Plant near the existing 1,200 MW facility in Jaipur, Mancherial district.
The tender process for this project has been completed, and the agreement was formalized during a ceremony at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. The event was attended by key officials, including SCCL’s Director (E&M) D. Satyanarayana Rao, Director (Operations) L.V. Suryanarayana, Director (P&P) K. Venkateshwarlu, Executive Director (Coal Movement) S.D.M. Subhani, and BHEL representatives led by General Manager Parthasarathi Das and General Manager Jogesh Gulati.
CMD Balaram emphasized the importance of expediting the construction process, stating that although the agreement allows for a four-year completion timeline, the goal is to finish within 40 months. He directed that construction activities commence next month and called for continuous monitoring to ensure adherence to the accelerated schedule. Balaram highlighted that the existing power plant infrastructure should be leveraged to facilitate swift completion of the new unit.
BHEL General Manager Parthasarathi Das outlined the company’s responsibilities under the agreement, which include the installation of boilers, turbines, generators (BTG), and execution of all related civil works. The project is slated for completion within 48 months.
The current 1,200 MW thermal power plant, operational since 2016, has been a profitable venture for SCCL, contributing approximately ₹450 crore annually. To date, it has supplied around 70,000 million units of electricity to meet the state’s needs. The plant has consistently achieved high Plant Load Factor (PLF) ratings, earning national recognition. In light of this performance, the state government has authorized SCCL to establish an additional unit at the same site.
