Hyderabad: Aadhaar technology reached a new milestone in July with record usage of its face authentication service, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The system logged 193.6 million transactions during the month, the highest since the feature was launched.
Compared with July last year, when only 57.7 million such transactions were recorded, the volume has more than tripled. It also marked a 22% rise over June’s numbers. On July 1 alone, 12.2 million face authentication transactions were completed, surpassing the previous single-day record of 10.7 million set on March 1.
Over 150 organisations across the country, including central and state government departments, banks, financial institutions, oil marketing companies and telecom operators, currently use Aadhaar face authentication. The AI-powered system enables faster, more secure service delivery.
Aadhaar face authentication boosts welfare delivery
The technology has proved critical in verifying beneficiaries of welfare programmes. Under the National Social Assistance Programme, 1.366 million pensioners used the feature in July to confirm their identity. The service is also deployed in 850 medical colleges for attendance marking and by recruitment bodies such as the Staff Selection Commission and Railway Recruitment Board for candidate verification.
Alongside face authentication, total Aadhaar authentication transactions including fingerprint and iris scans reached 2.21 billion in July. Aadhaar e-KYC transactions stood at 395.6 million. UIDAI said the figures highlight the expanding role of Aadhaar in government services and welfare distribution.
