Hyderabad: In a significant move aimed at tightening passenger identification, the Indian Railways has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar details while booking Tatkal tickets. The decision, announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, is expected to be implemented soon.
The minister said that the new requirement would help accurately identify passengers and curb fraudulent bookings. “This step ensures that the exact identity of the railway passenger is verified,” the minister stated.
Tatkal tickets, known for their quick turnaround in booking, often attract high demand and are sometimes misused by touts. By linking Aadhaar to the booking process, the Railways hopes to make the system more transparent and efficient.
Officials said that the move is part of a broader effort to enhance security and accountability in the passenger booking system. Details about the rollout date and implementation procedure are expected to be released shortly.
