Hyderabad: BRS senior leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Friday criticised AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for indirectly backing Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the Jubilee Hills by-election. He warned that such a move would divide Muslim votes and, therefore, benefit the BJP.
Sohail said Owaisi once called Revanth an “RSS agent” but now acted in his favour. He then asked if Owaisi’s silence came from “pressure by RSS’s tillu or his elder brother Narendra Modi.”
Sohail questions AIMIM’s “double standards”
The BRS leader argued that AIMIM fought Congress in Bihar, yet supported Congress in Telangana. “When MIM contests against Congress in Bihar, why does it support Congress here? People need an answer,” he said.
Furthermore, Sohail pointed to a letter drafted by Revanth’s team and read at MIM’s Shaikpet meeting. The letter listed pending works in Borabanda, Ahmednagar, Erragadda, Yousufguda, and Vengalrao Nagar. It also promised land near Peeli Dargah for a graveyard, a demand pending since former MLA Gopinath’s tenure.
He also accused Revanth of denying Muslims cabinet berths, MLC posts, and minority benefits for 22 months. Moreover, he added that mosques, graveyards, and Ashurkhana faced demolition in the Chief Minister’s constituency without any protest from Owaisi.
Later, Sohail reminded voters that Owaisi’s earlier appeals in parliamentary polls helped BJP candidates win multiple seats. “If Muslims split their votes in Jubilee Hills, BJP could capture this seat as well,” he warned.
Finally, he urged Muslims to treat the by-election as decisive. “This is not about one leader or one party. It is about unity, rejecting those who mislead, and ensuring the community’s voice is never ignored again,” he said.
