ACB intensifies anti-corruption drive in April, registers 21 cases across Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana intensified its operations in April 2025, registering a total of 21 cases targeting corrupt practices among government officials. The cases comprised 13 trap operations, two disproportionate assets cases, two criminal misconduct cases, two regular enquiries, and two surprise checks. These actions led to the arrest and judicial custody of 20 government officials.

In a significant development, the ACB unearthed assets worth ₹3.51 crore from the residence of Mohammad Ghouse Pasha, Motor Vehicle Inspector (FAC) in Mahabubabad. The seized items included property documents for two houses, 25 open plots, agricultural land spanning three and a half acres, household appliances valued at ₹7 lakh, a car worth ₹32 lakh, and two motorcycles.

In another major case, the ACB conducted raids on April 26 at 13 locations associated with Bhookya Hari Ram, former Engineer-in-Chief of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The raids revealed assets estimated at ₹13.50 crore, including villas in Shaikpet and Kondapur, flats in Srinagar Colony and Madhapur, a commercial plot in Amaravati, 28 acres of agricultural land in Markook mandal, mango orchards in Bommalaramaram, open plots in various locations, a BMW car, gold ornaments, and bank deposits. The market value of these assets is believed to exceed ₹100 crore.

The ACB also targeted police officials involved in corrupt activities:

– On April 10, Bhadrachalam Town CI Barapati Ramesh was caught accepting a ₹20,000 bribe related to gravel transportation.

– On April 18, Naspur SI Nelki Sugunakar was apprehended for taking a ₹30,000 bribe to release ₹2 lakh seized from an individual on judicial remand.

– On April 21, Manuguru CI Soma Satish Kumar was arrested for demanding ₹4 lakh and accepting ₹3 lakh in a land dispute case.

– On April 28, Shamirpet SI P. Parashuram was caught accepting a ₹22,000 bribe to assist in a cheating case.

The ACB’s aggressive stance in April underscores its commitment to eradicating corruption within the state’s administrative framework.
