Hyderabad: Four people died and five others sustained injuries in a Mahabubnagar bus accident at Addakula early on Monday. Police said the collision occurred around 2 a.m. when a CVR Travels bus going from Hyderabad to Proddatur hit a lorry moving ahead near Addakula.
The deceased included bus cleaner Hasan, 35; Ashraf Unnisa, 70, from Nandyal in Rayalaseema; Ellamma, 40, from Kamalapuram in Proddatur; and another unidentified woman passenger. Five other passengers suffered injuries and were shifted to the district hospital.

The crash blocked traffic on the national highway for several hours. Jadcherla Rural CI Kamalakar Rao, Addakula SI Srinivas, and Bhoothpur SI Chandrasekhar reached the spot. They removed the damaged vehicles and ensured the injured received medical treatment.
Family tragedy
Among the victims, Ellamma’s death caused the most tragic outcome. Her son Santosh, a fourth-grade student, was left orphaned. Ellamma had raised him alone after her husband’s death. She had placed him in a hostel in Proddatur while working in Hyderabad. Recently, she brought him back to the city before planning to return to their native place. Witnesses said the boy wept inconsolably after learning of his mother’s death.
