HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) General Secretary Addanki Dayakar has strongly criticised recent remarks by Telangana BJP leaders about the caste and religion of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
In a video statement, Dayakar called out BJP leaders for their lack of awareness regarding Gandhi’s background, stating it was “shameful” for those engaging in caste and religious politics to be ignorant of such facts. He clarified that Rahul Gandhi belongs to the ‘Pandit’ community and identified him as a Brahmin.
Dayakar alleged that the BJP is uncomfortable with Gandhi’s efforts to safeguard the Constitution and support underprivileged communities. He attributed this stance to what he termed as the BJP’s ‘Manuvadi’ ideology.
He also accused BJP leaders of denigrating the Gandhi family, believing that Rahul Gandhi is being targeted because he is seen as a prospective Prime Minister. Additionally, he referenced Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s earlier remarks, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a “converted BC” rather than an original Backward Class member. According to Dayakar, Modi altered his caste identity, and BJP leaders, dissatisfied with these assertions, are now making remarks about Gandhi’s caste.
