Delhi, February 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expanded its political footprint, now governing 19 states across India after securing a majority in the Delhi Assembly elections. The party won 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 26 years.
This victory follows BJP’s strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for a third consecutive term. The party also contested elections in eight states this year, forming governments—either independently or through alliances—in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
BJP’s Political Expansion
Historically, the BJP reached its peak in 2018, when its alliance governed 21 states, equaling Indira Gandhi’s record of state-level dominance. While the party lost control in Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand, its continued expansion in the North, West, East, and Central India reinforces its national stronghold.
