Hyderabad: BJP leader and former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha exchanged honours at the Alai Balai event in Nampally on Wednesday.
Dattatreya’s daughter Vijaya Lakshmi welcomed Kavitha at the event. Kavitha, in turn, honoured Dattatreya for leading Alai Balai for over two decades.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha said Dattatreya had conducted Alai Balai for 20 years, keeping it free from politics, religion, and caste. She called it a festival that celebrates Telangana’s culture and spirit of togetherness.
Kavitha congratulated Vijaya Lakshmi for continuing her father’s legacy. She expressed hope that the event would grow stronger under her leadership.
She said people don’t remember Dattatreya only as a BJP leader or Governor, but as someone who united others. “Many told me how Dattanna always followed up on people’s issues and helped resolve them. He set an example in public life,” she said.
