Hyderabad: Telangana Youth Congress state general secretary Almas Khan on Monday condemned the arrests of opposition MPs in New Delhi, calling them an attack on democracy. He demanded that the Election Commission take urgent action on large-scale vote deletions in Karnataka and Bihar.
Khan said over one lakh votes were removed in Karnataka and 58 lakh in Bihar. He argued that when senior Congress leaders including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other INDIA Alliance MPs raised such concerns, the government’s duty was to ensure accountability, not to order the arrests of opposition MPs.
“In the world’s largest democracy, the vote is the people’s greatest power. Stealing it is the murder of democracy,” Khan said. He accused the Election Commission of bowing to central pressure and abandoning its constitutional duty by staying silent.
He demanded the Commission clarify the facts, act transparently, and safeguard voting rights without political bias. “The credibility of the Election Commission is at stake. If it remains silent on such massive irregularities, people will lose faith in the institution,” he warned.
Khan recalled Rahul Gandhi’s call for a nationwide protest against vote theft. He urged citizens to join the movement, saying public participation was essential to protect the sanctity of elections. “Your vote is your future. If you want to protect it, raise your voice now,” he appealed.
He added that the arrests of opposition MPs would not silence demands for electoral fairness and transparency. Instead, he said, such actions only strengthen the resolve of those fighting to safeguard democracy.
