Hyderabad: A fast-track court in Nampally sentenced 20-year-old Salimeda Vamshi to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a rape and POCSO case registered at Amberpet Police Station in 2022. The court also imposed a ₹15,000 fine and awarded ₹2 lakh compensation to the survivor through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The case involved a 16-year-old girl who lodged a complaint in February 2022, stating that Vamshi, a decoration worker, had repeatedly exploited her sexually since 2018 under the false pretext of marriage. The relationship, which began when she was a minor, resulted in two pregnancies. During her second pregnancy, the accused allegedly slammed the door in her face, worsening her trauma.
After his initial arrest and release on bail, Vamshi resumed contact, harassing and pressuring the victim to withdraw the case. The victim, with support from the Bharosa Centre, lodged a fresh complaint and continued to pursue justice.
The Bharosa team provided ongoing counselling and support to the survivor, helping her recover, resume education, and rebuild her life. Officials confirmed that she has since completed her Intermediate studies and is residing safely with her family.
Conviction was secured through coordinated efforts by multiple agencies. The case was investigated by Inspector P. Sudhakar (then of Amberpet PS), Assistant Commissioner N. Venkata Ramana, and other officers including Sri Ram Reddy, Public Prosecutor, legal counsellor Smt. Kalpana, and court duty officers PC N. Srinivas and PC G. Raju.
The efforts were closely monitored by Dr. Lavanya NJP (DCP, Women Safety), ACP Prasanna Lakshmi, Inspector G. Manjula, and Centre Administrator Mary Augustine. Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand commended all stakeholders for their dedicated coordination and successful prosecution.
