HYDERABAD: Andhra University has completed 100 years since its establishment. Founded in 1926 in Visakhapatnam, then part of the Madras Presidency, the university owes its creation largely to generous land donations from local zamindars.
The centenary celebrations have officially begun and will continue for a year, concluding on 26 April 2026. The inauguration featured a walkathon, the unveiling of a centenary logo, and a vision document outlining the university’s plans for educational, infrastructural, and social service development over the next century.
Various cultural programmes are being held as part of the celebrations, with participation from former students, faculty members, and prominent personalities. Notable figures attending the events include former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, renowned singer P. Susheela, and filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas.
