Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) came under fresh scrutiny on Tuesday after a complaint was lodged with the Rachakonda Police Commissioner, alleging large-scale age fraud in its junior cricket leagues.
Complainant Anant Reddy accused several players in the Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 categories of using fake birth certificates to enter league matches. He said this malpractice had denied genuine young players a fair chance to compete.
Reddy pointed out that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier banned six players for similar offences. Yet, he said, HCA officials failed to act and allowed the problem to continue. He alleged that the association ignored repeated warnings and took no measures to prevent further violations.
Complaint links age fraud to corruption in selections
The complaint also accused HCA officials of corruption, claiming they favoured players with political or personal influence during team selection. Reddy urged the police to launch an immediate investigation and take firm action against those responsible.
He warned that unchecked age fraud was damaging the credibility of junior cricket in Telangana and demanded systemic reforms within the HCA.
