Hyderabad: In what officials described as one of the biggest traps in its history, the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Chief Engineer of the Tribal Welfare Department S. Srinivas for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹25 lakh as token payment towards a total demand of ₹5 crore.
Srinivas was caught by ACB teams from Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada while accepting the cash from Satya Sai Constructions head Krishnam Raju. The contractor had secured work orders for building Ekalavya schools in tribal areas and was awaiting clearance of government bills worth ₹35.5 crore. ACB officials said Srinivas demanded ₹5 crore to facilitate the release of the payment.
Officer trapped weeks before retirement
Srinivas was due to retire in about three weeks. Instead, he now faces imprisonment after being caught red-handed. ACB sources said the operation was jointly executed following credible information and involved coordination between regional units.
