Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh BJP president PVN Madhav has publicly corrected his earlier misstep involving a map of ‘Akhand Bharat’ that omitted Telangana, a move that drew sharp criticism from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and triggered backlash on social media.
The original map was presented by Madhav to TDP leader and AP minister Nara Lokesh, omitting Telangana a gesture seen as disrespectful by many in the two Telugu-speaking states. Madhav has now amended the act, presenting a revised version of the map that includes Telangana to Telangana BJP chief Ramachandra Rao in Hyderabad.
The Telangana BJP’s official handle defended the act, saying criticism of the image was unwarranted. “Objecting to a portrait reflecting Akhand Bharat’s cultural legacy is like digging a mountain to catch a mouse,” it said, describing the gift as one made with affection and cultural respect.
Madhav also issued a clarification via X (formerly Twitter), stating that political lines should not override Telugu unity. “Attempts to divide Andhra and Telangana for votes reflect petty-mindedness,” he wrote, describing himself as a nationalist and proud Telugu advocate who has worked for language and cultural identity.
He criticised what he described as selective outrage from those who glorify the Razakars or “bow to Nizam’s heirs,” saying such voices could never grasp the shared values of nationality and cultural harmony that unite the Telugu states.
Madhav insisted his respect for Telangana was unwavering and transcended politics.
“Those who draw political lines over Telugu unity will eventually have to bow before history.”
