HYDERABAD: The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2024 has revealed that Andhra Pradesh ranks first in television ownership across India, with 95.1% of households possessing a TV set. Tamil Nadu follows closely with 94.5%, while Punjab stands at 93.7%. Telangana secures the fourth position, with 87% of households owning a television.
In contrast, states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar report significantly lower TV ownership. Uttar Pradesh records only 43% of households with a television, while West Bengal stands at 48.4%. Other notable figures include Karnataka at 89.9%, Kerala at 89.3%, Maharashtra at 79.6%, and Gujarat at 69.5%.
These statistics highlight stark disparities in television accessibility across different states, reflecting variations in infrastructure development and economic conditions. Higher TV ownership rates may indicate better media penetration, which can influence educational outreach, public awareness campaigns, and information dissemination strategies nationwide.
The ASER 2024 report offers critical insights into media accessibility and its potential role in shaping education and communication strategies. With television continuing to be a primary source of information and entertainment, these findings provide valuable data for policymakers and media planners aiming to enhance outreach in underrepresented regions.
