Hyderabad, January 10: ASHA workers in Telangana launched protests demanding resolution of their long-standing issues during the ongoing legislative assembly sessions. The ASHA Union State Committee had called for demonstrations on January 10 outside the residences of MLAs, urging a discussion on their grievances in the Assembly.
In Khammam district, workers staged a protest outside the camp office of Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao. Chanting slogans against the government’s indifference towards their plight, they demanded immediate action. Similarly, in Vikarabad district, the residence of Parigi MLA Rammohan Reddy was surrounded by protesting workers.
The protesting workers recalled promises made during election campaigns. They pointed out that the Congress party had assured solutions to their problems if elected to power. Now, they are pressing for the fulfilment of these promises, particularly regarding minimum wages and job security.
Workers expressed frustration over being exploited for additional tasks, such as surveys and miscellaneous duties, without formal job descriptions or fair compensation. Despite 17 years of struggle, they said successive governments have failed to address their concerns.
The union warned of intensified protests if their demands, including fair wages and employment stability, are not met promptly.
