Hyderabad: Former cricketer and Congress working president Mohammad Azharuddin will take oath as a minister in the Telangana Cabinet on Friday. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) cleared his induction earlier this week. Azharuddin will take the oath at Raj Bhavan at 12:15 p.m. Officials began the ceremony arrangements on Thursday.
Azharuddin to be sworn in as minister
Azharuddin becomes the first minister from the Greater Hyderabad region in this Congress government. Party leaders said the AICC approved his name after consulting the state leadership.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP leaders urged the Chief Electoral Officer to block the cabinet expansion. They argued it violated the model code of conduct. Election officials said they would inform the Election Commission of India and then decide on the request.
AICC nod and oath preparations
After receiving the AICC approval, the state government informed Governor about its decision. Following that, officials at Raj Bhavan launched full-scale preparations for the oath ceremony. Security teams checked the venue and coordinated logistics. The government plans to issue the formal order on Friday morning before the swearing-in.
