Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay on Thursday announced that rescue operations in Narmala, Sircilla had been successfully completed with five stranded persons airlifted to safety by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
In a post on social media platform X, Sanjay said two helicopters would remain stationed at Sircilla to provide immediate assistance if required. He expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and IAF Commodore V.S. Saini for their swift coordination and deployment of helicopters.
Bandi Sanjay had earlier raised concern over delay
Earlier in the day, Sanjay had enquired with Defence Ministry officials about the delay in the arrival of Army helicopters to Telangana. Officials informed him that three helicopters had been readied for deployment, but poor weather conditions prevented their immediate entry into the state. They added that helicopters from Nanded and Bidar stations were being mobilised to assist operations.
The minister highlighted that heavy inflows into SRSP and Maneru rivers had created dangerous conditions for low-lying habitations, requiring urgent aerial support. While National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were already engaged on the ground, Sanjay said helicopters were essential for evacuating stranded villagers and delivering supplies to isolated areas.
With the deployment now operational in Sircilla, Sanjay said central agencies were extending full support to Telangana’s rescue efforts. “The safety of people in flood-affected areas remains our top priority,” he said.
The IAF helicopters are expected to continue monitoring vulnerable areas as rains persist across northern Telangana.
