HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has criticized the Congress government for removing Potti Sriramulu’s name from institutions. He questioned whether names with Andhra roots are being targeted.
Sanjay highlighted Potti Sriramulu’s significant contributions, noting that he sacrificed his life for the formation of Andhra Pradesh and was a devoted freedom fighter. He recalled that Mahatma Gandhi once remarked, “If I had ten more like Potti Sriramulu, India would have attained independence earlier.”
Criticizing the Congress party’s history, Sanjay stated that it has a pattern of disrespecting eminent personalities, citing past instances involving Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Potti Sriramulu. He questioned whether the government would also remove names like N.T. Rama Rao, Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, and Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy from public institutions due to their Andhra origins.
Sanjay demanded that the Congress government rectify this decision by reinstating Potti Sriramulu’s name to the Telugu University. He also called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to apologize to the Arya Vysya community and all patriots for this oversight.
