HYDERABAD: With the onset of summer, groundwater levels are rapidly depleting in several districts, leading to the drying up of bore wells and causing severe distress among farmers. Many farmers are drilling deeper bore wells in a desperate attempt to save their crops, only to end up in debt due to the lack of water. As standing crops reach the harvesting stage, they are beginning to wither, leaving farmers in a state of despair. Those who have taken loans for farming are now struggling financially, expressing their helplessness.
Amidst this crisis, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay lashed out at the Telangana government over its inaction. Speaking to the media, he accused the state administration of ignoring the plight of farmers despite nearly 10 lakh acres of crops drying up. He questioned why water from canals was not being released to save the crops and blamed the government’s negligence for the suffering of farmers.
Bandi Sanjay alleged that the Congress-led state government was attempting to evade responsibility by blaming the central government for every issue. He also criticized the state for failing to provide compensation to farmers for crop losses. “Is this the Congress model of farmer welfare?” he asked, condemning the government’s inaction.
Demanding an immediate discussion on farmer issues in the Assembly, he urged the government to take necessary measures to support distressed farmers. He also insisted that water be released for irrigation until the end of the Rabi season to prevent further crop losses.
