Hyderabad: A swift and decisive intervention by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay, led to the safe evacuation of 23 Telugu-speaking students who were stranded in Kashmir amid intensifying violence. The students, from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, had been studying at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) when the situation in the valley deteriorated.
Over the past few days, Kashmir has witnessed a sharp spike in unrest, with drone and missile attacks reportedly launched from across the border targeting homes, government buildings, and military installations. With airports shut and transportation suspended, the students found themselves trapped and increasingly fearful.
Desperate and anxious, the students sent a direct appeal to Bandi Sanjay. “We are caught in a war zone. Please help us. We need to be moved out of Kashmir to a safer place,” their letter read, citing the rapidly worsening security situation.
Sanjay responded immediately, initiating contact with the students to assess their condition. He followed up with direct communication with the district collector and the dean of SKUAST, instructing them to arrange a swift and secure evacuation.
Acting on his directives, the Jammu and Kashmir administration mobilised necessary resources and facilitated the students’ transfer to safer zones. The coordinated response ensured that all 23 students were relocated without incident.
A government release issued on Saturday confirmed that the evacuation had been completed successfully. It credited the prompt efforts of Bandi Sanjay and local officials for making the safe extraction of students possible under extremely volatile conditions.
