HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has criticized AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi for his remarks suggesting that the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) poses a future threat to the Indian Constitution. Speaking on Saturday at the District Court Complex in Karimnagar, where he sanctioned ₹15 lakh for the establishment of a digital library for lawyers, Sanjay addressed the controversy surrounding the Waqf Board Amendment Bill.
Sanjay accused Owaisi of making reckless statements about the bill, asserting that despite opposition from individuals like Owaisi, the Waqf Board Amendment Bill will not be halted. He labeled the AIMIM party as inherently anti-national and emphasized that the bill’s passage is imminent. Sanjay argued that opposing the bill on religious grounds is inappropriate and warned that such actions could provoke public backlash. He highlighted the government’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement stringent measures for the nation’s welfare.
Drawing attention to issues faced by the poor due to the current functioning of the Waqf Board, Sanjay recounted an incident in Karimnagar where a family residing in their ancestral home for generations faced difficulties when the Waqf Board revoked necessary permissions, claiming the property as Waqf land. He stated that similar issues are prevalent nationwide, underscoring the government’s responsibility to protect citizens and their properties, which necessitated the drafting of the amendment bill. Sanjay criticized those attempting to incite unrest by portraying the bill through a communal lens, asserting that regardless of opposition from Owaisi or others, the bill will proceed. He reiterated the Modi government’s readiness to take further stringent decisions for the country’s betterment.
Sanjay also mentioned that he has faced 109 cases due to his activism for public causes. He announced plans to secure an additional ₹50 lakh from CSR funds to support a conference for lawyers.
